Henry Street Settlement Fund Arts Program

According to the Theater Communications Group, 60% of the country’s non-profit theaters are predicting deficits this year, compared to 10% in 2021. Non-profit theaters are the heart of many communities and provide local entertainment and performance opportunities to those in the community. At NCEKCF, we see the value of performing arts and the impact it has on the socio-emotional effects on a community. We hope to break down the barriers of economic inequality, and provide equality of opportunity to those interested in artistic expression.

As a part of our goal to assist non-profit performing art and theater communities, we have begun a new partnership with Henry Street Settlement Fund in New York City’s Lower East Side. Henry Street provides its community with affordable or free arts classes like dance, music, visual arts, and theater. The founder of Henry Street Settlement, Lillian Wald, believed that all individuals needed an opportunity for artistic and creative expression.

Art programs can play a central role in empowering communities by allowing students to foster creativity, nurture a sense of identity, and create a connection among its community members. Art programs such as dance classes or music classes enable self-expression and bring social cohesion amongst communities. We are excited to support Henry Street as they bring art programs to the Lowest East Side community in New York.
